Product Description
The Mercedes-Benz W198, also known as the Mercedes - Benz Type 300 SL, was manufactured by Daimler - Benz AG between 1954 and 1963. The coupé model, which was equipped with gullwing doors, was sold from 1954 to 1957. In 1954, Mercedes - Benz presented the 300 SL as a novelty at the International Motor Sports Show in New York. The 300 SL earned the title of ‘fastest sports car of its time’. In this case, the number 300 stands for the engine measured in centilitres and the abbreviation SL stands for ‘Super Leicht’ (super light). The W198 was modelled on the W194, which was well-known from motor racing and already had the abbreviation SL in its name.
