The Tour de France automobile was a stage-based automobile competition that took place on the roads of France. First held in 1899, it was created by the Automobile Club de France and organized by the newspaper Le Matin [1]. This debut race was won by René de Knyff driving a Panhard et Levassor. This competition became successful when the best drivers could drive the best cars, then the decline came. The last edition was held in 1986.
