When we think about the most well-known automobile companies, we can likely only list a handful. That's because this industry requires manufacturers to keep aiming for more remarkable feats of engineering every year. Those who can are the ones history remembers. It makes sense that Honda is still a widely loved and appreciated automobile company as they continue improving. Find out some of the most unique Honda models ever made.
Spirit of Determination
Soichiro Honda founded the Honda automobile company in September 1948. Honda began by working on piston rings and garnered a contract to make them for Toyota. Unfortunately, he soon lost that contact due to the low quality of his products. However, that didn't stop Honda from pushing forward to improve the quality of his piston rings to the point that he was eventually able to mass produce them for Toyota.
That same spirit of determination embeds deeply into the essence of Honda as an automobile company. That's why Honda is still a broadly known company since they vow to enhance their many makes and models, never stopping. Thanks to that, we have the honor of bearing witness to some of the most unique models that Honda has ever made.
1990 Honda NSX
The 1990 Honda NSX has quite an interesting conception as its development came about from inspiration. In the mid-1980s, Honda engineers started researching ways to improve its chassis and engine layouts to make better automobiles. During this experiment, engineers cut a Honda City in half and placed its engine by the driver's seat. They then ran several laps using the makeshift Honda City.
While the initial project did not see further development, the excitement of those laps enticed and inspired the engineers. This inspiration partially fed into the leaders at Honda starting to consider the development of a true sports car; thus, the 1990 Honda NSX was born.
1966 Honda S800
The Honda S800 had a lot riding on its shoulders as the popular S600 was its predecessor. The S800 had to deliver on both power and innovative technology. Thankfully, it did, as it became the very first Honda automobile to reach 100 miles per hour.
In fact, its incredible engine, which could rev up to 10,000 revolutions per minute, helped attain the honor of being the fastest production 1-litre automobile in the world. For the time, achieving that many RPMs was an amazing engineering feat, making the Honda S800 the highest-revving car of its time. The 1966 Honda S800 came available as either a coupe or a roadster. Its interesting design and phenomenal power happily replaced the former S600 as Honda's image car.
With all this fantastic information that takes us on a journey of the many unique models Honda has created, you likely want to appreciate them up close and personal. At LiveCarModel, we have a wide range of Honda diecast models for you to choose from. Check out our 1966 Honda S800 Roadster to add to your collection today.
Honda EV Plus
The Honda EV Plus came into existence in an effort to meet the growing standards for future emissions to reduce pollution. This quaint car became the first battery electric vehicle that didn't utilize lead-acid batteries. However, the first prototype of the Honda EV Plus led to outrage from its project leader as he felt the engineers didn't put enough passion into the project.
That led to the team reorienting their focus to create an electric vehicle that would be up to Honda standards. It would be hard to find the Honda EV Plus now as manufacturers only created around 300 models. However, this car helped Honda improve and gain more research and traction on the electric vehicle front.
Honda S2000
At the turn of the twentieth century and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding, Honda manufactured the Honda S2000. One of the most interesting aspects of the Honda S2000 is that only engineers and designers worked on the entire development. Making the S2000 with little input from the marketing team was a deliberate choice.
Because of this, engineers and designers could stick to the Honda standards and principles as strictly as possible. According to the Chief Engineer, this choice was so the engineers could make a vehicle that pleased them and no one else. To paraphrase, the more people putting input into a vehicle, the greater the chance it can end up looking the same and pleasing no one. That's why the Honda S2000 is a beautiful production that holds the essence and soul of Honda.
Honda Civic Type R
Still in production today, the Honda Civic Type R has seen many iterations and is quite possibly Honda's most popular car. However, don't let popularity fool you into thinking this automobile is common, as it's anything but. There is nothing quite like the Honda Civic Type R on the market today, as this is a unique model you can't find anywhere else. With six generations and 25 years of production under its belt, this automobile is an emblem of innovation and improvement that can only go up from here.
Moreover, this automobile has an incredible ability to reach 60 miles per hour in just four seconds. It's no secret that the Type R is a force to be reckoned with. That's just one of the reasons many people love this car. But we can't help but also mention its sophisticated design, luxurious interior, and incredible stability at high speeds.
NSX-R GT
Likely, you've never seen the NSX-R GT as it's one of the rarest models that Honda has ever made: only five of these bad boys exist and were only available in Japan. So why are there so few of these cars in existence? The reason is that Honda created this car to win at the All Japan Grand Touring Car Championship as it needed to fulfill additional requirements to race.
For example, the NSX-R GT has a fully functional snorkel that helps feed air into the throttle body. It also has a wider body to enhance aerodynamics. Why did Honda create just five of these unique cars? That's the minimum number of production cars must have to compete in the JGTG and Super GT.
